 Juniors and Youth

At Henley Hawks Netball Club, we are passionate about introducing young players to the exciting world of netball. Our Juniors and Youth programmes provide a fun, supportive environment where players can learn the game, develop key skills, and build confidence while making new friends. Whether they are just starting out or preparing for more competitive play, our tailored sessions ensure that each player gets the right level of coaching for their age and ability.

Our Junior Sessions:

We have structured our junior sessions by age group to ensure that each player receives the attention and development opportunities they need.

Little Merlins (Years 2-4)

Time: Sundays 8:15-9:00am

Our youngest players are introduced to the fundamentals of netball in a fun and engaging way. Through games and activities, they learn the basics of passing, catching, and footwork, all while enjoying themselves on the court. This session is all about building coordination, confidence, and a love for the game.

Little Owls** (Years 2-4)

Time: Sundays 9:00-9:45am

As players grow, we begin focusing on developing their skills further, introducing them to simple team strategies and the rules of the game. Little Owls get a mix of skill drills and small-sided games to improve their understanding of passing, positioning, and working as part of a team.

Hobbies (Years 5-6)

Time: Sundays 9:45-10:45am

At this stage, we start to refine key netball techniques, such as movement on the court, shooting, and defensive play. Hobbies sessions focus on developing game awareness, working on communication, and learning how to read the game. We introduce more match-like scenarios to build confidence and understanding of different positions.

Kestrels (Years 7-8)

Time: Sundays 10:45-11:45 am

Kestrels take their netball skills to the next level. These sessions are more competitive, focusing on advanced drills, strategy, and match preparation. Players start to specialise in positions and learn how to adapt their skills to different game situations. Our goal is to prepare Kestrels for external match play, helping them become well-rounded, confident players.

Youth: The Next Step (Years 9-13)

After Kestrels, players can progress into our Youth section, which serves as a vital pathway to our adult teams. Youth sessions are designed for players in years 9-12 who are eager to continue improving their game and are ready for more competitive and tactical netball. These sessions build on the foundation laid in the Juniors, focusing on advanced skill development, positional play, and match tactics.

Youth Training Times:

Tuesday evenings from 7:30 pm to 9:00pm

In the Youth section, players refine their game further by working on high-level drills and game strategy, gaining confidence in their ability to perform in competitive match situations. They will have opportunities to participate in inter-club matches and tournaments, helping them gain valuable experience on the court.

Pathway to Adult Teams

The Youth section is a stepping stone for players aspiring to transition into Henley Hawks’ adult teams. We actively support our Youth players in making this progression, offering them opportunities to train with adult squads and participate in competitive leagues. Many of our Youth players go on to join our senior teams, continuing their netball journey within the club.

Henley Hawks is proud to offer this pathway, ensuring that players of all ages have the chance to develop their skills and play at a level that suits them. With our inclusive and supportive atmosphere, we provide a seamless transition from youth to adult netball.
